04/19/2009 - Monte Carlo, Monaco (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Top-seeded and world No. 1 Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic in three sets Sunday to win the title at the Monte Carlo Masters.

The two players split the first two sets before Nadal went on to a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 win over the third-seeded Djokovic. The Serb presented more of a challenge in the final for Nadal, who until this match had not dropped a set at this tournament since the 2006 final against Roger Federer.

Nadal won the first game of the third set while serving, then broke Djokovic, who had several game points and double-faulted back to deuce at one point. Djokovic managed to break Nadal in the next service game, but the Spaniard rolled to the win from there, securing his fifth consecutive Monte Carlo title. Nadal is 29-1 lifetime at this tournament.

In addition to continuing his reign at Monte Carlo, Nadal picked up his third title of the year, having already won at the Australian Open and Indian Wells. He is 34-9 all-time in ATP singles finals and 23-1 in clay-court finals.

Nadal is 12-4 all-time against Djokovic and added a second win against the Serb this year, having already beat him in Davis Cup action in straight sets. Three of Nadal's wins against Djokovic have come in title matches.

Djokovic was trying for his second title of the year and was playing in his third final of 2009. The 21-year-old won in Dubai before losing to Andy Murray of Scotland in Miami two weeks ago. The 2008 Australian Open champ fell to 12-8 all-time in finals.

Nadal claimed $580,500 for the win.
